This week has been full of elections parades and craziness in the streets. Elections are on Friday so things are getting heated up around here on Aruba. At least I have gotten enough shirts and hats to last me for the rest of my life.
It has been a busy week working with less
actives and continually finding new people to teach. A
member that leaves with us almost every day named Charles gave
us a really cool reference of a lady named Marcia. She
had a heart attack when she was about 35 and at 40 she had a
stroke. She is now around 45 and is one of the most
positive and determined people I have met. She is a very
cool lady and still independent. I asked her what she has
learned from her trials and she talked about the faith that she
has not only been able to maintain but develop while going
through these incredible trials.
We are teaching a lady that used to be the main news anchor for the island a few years back. We found here at an inactive members house a couple of weeks ago. She was talking about starting her own church so we talked a bit about authority and gave her a Book of Mormon. We called her last week to see if she had investigated it at all and she told us that she was half way done with the book!! When we went bye to visit her in the week she told us how she wasn't expecting to dedicate this much attention to our church but something is calling her attention and she can't seem to stop wanting to know more. She has a very strong testimony of the Book of Mormon already, I have learned that as missionaries a lot of the time all we do is help people recognize what a testimony is and that they already have one. She has come to church twice now and we are excited for her progress.
On Thursday we had district meeting on the computer up in San Nicolas. We caught a big lizard and put its face up in the camera when we logged on to the video conference. We also caught a pigeon and let it say hi to everyone as well. It was pretty funny.
On Saturday afternoon we went to the airport to pick up the Smiths (senior couple from Orem) who flew in from Bonaire for the weekend. They have a lot of work to do to help these branches.
Have had a lot of cool lessons this week. We have been inspired to talk a lot about recognizing the Spirit with people this week. A new member had her testimony attacked by some missionaries from another church this week. When we went to visit her she told us how they taught her all this strange doctrine about the Godhead from the bible and she was really confused. The missionaries told her that we would try to convince her otherwise and that she should trust in the bible. She was really distraught and didn't know what to do. So, we retaught her the trinity from the scriptures and as we cited the first vision we invited her to listen to the Spirit that she would feel. After reciting the vision, she had a big smile and we asked her if she really felt like it was all true. She was so happy to have received direction from God and have here confusion cleared up. I am grateful that God loves his children enough to clear up confusion when we go to Him for answers. I have sure gained a testimony of the role of the Holy Ghost on my misson.
Anyhow, have a dushi siman. Mi ta stima boso tur. Mi ta spera ku boso lo tin hopi exito den e siman aki.
