BLog week in ARuba‏

It sounds like things have been very cold back home! It has been over 90 degrees nearly every day for the last 2 months here in Aruba it seems like.   The sun sure is hot here.
This week we have been really busy.  We found a very cool Columbian family who really recognize us as servants of the Lord.  They accept that it was the Lord that put us on their door step when we were contacting and are really eager to learn more.  The father of the family told us of a personal trial he has had with one of his daughters who has some special needs.  She has had problems in one of her eyes for most of her life.  About five years ago they went to a doctor here in Aruba that gave them some drops for the eye that ended up burning her optical nerves.  She went blind in that eye and she has needed a surgery for the last 5 years to remove the eye but they haven't been capable of paying for the surgery.  I had never seen so much love from a father as I did from this one as he spoke about the struggles and pain of his daughter.   This man was really comforted by the Spirit as we testified of the healing power of the atonement and the understanding that the Lord has of all our sorrows.  We are excited for the progress this family will have.
This weekend was elections here in Aruba.  The road system is already difficult enough here in Aruba with single lane roads and with 5 mile long parades each day it has made travel pretty difficult.  We were driving to a lesson with our branch mission leader (charles) yesterday and we were driving through the parade of the party that won the elections.  We came upon the jeep that had the prime minister in it waiving to everybody.  Our mission leader leaned out the window and yelled "I voted for MEP!" (the other major political party here).  The prime ministers wife just shrugged and gave him a helpless look.  I hope they don't ban Mormon missionaries from Aruba now.
Charles (mission leader) also took us to a really nice buffet this week at the Renaissance hotel. They had endless sushi and pasta.  Charles is the best!
Love you guys and hope you have a great week! Make sure to write down questions for conference this weekend!
Love,
Elder Herring
