This past week has been insane!! so tuesday morning at 6 i had to leave
my apartment in La Romana with all of my luggage to go to the capital
and pick up my new ¨kid¨ at the mission office. so i got on the bus and
headed out but the catch was that i needed to drop off my luggage in San
Pedro which is one city to the west of La Romana on the way to the
capital. I told the bus driver that i needed to stop for a minute to
drop my luggage off and give it to other missionaries that should be on
the bus route to pick up my luggage so that i could keep going. well the
catch to all of this is that i didnt have a phone so i wasnt able to
call the other missionaries to tell them when i was arriving. they knew
roughly the time that i should be there but not exactly. so i showed up
and went to drop off my luggage and they werent there!! haha so i talked
with the bus driver and he started getting annoyed after 20 seconds of
waiting so i told him to hold on and finally a saw the other
missionaries a block down and i motioned to them that my two luggages
were sitting there on the sidewalk and then i jumped on the bus praying
that no one would grab my suitcases before they got to them! then i took
the bus the rest of the way to the capital and got dropped off pretty
far from where i needed so i had to walk and half run to get to the
office cause i was by myself this whole time! then i met my new comp
that i´m teaching and his name is Elder Peterson. hes from california in
the area of orange county. he is super cool and really excited to be
out here and working! plus we are opening an area that hasnt been opened
in over 5 years in the mission called Miramar in the Zone San Pedro.
Our area is only a branch and its not even a ward cause its so small!
its really really cool out here cause we work all along the beach so im
excited about that one! there are already a couple members out here that
are really cool. Elder Peterson was in the intermediate spanish group
in the MTC so he understands more spanish than i did when i started the
mission! oh and also, the same day that i went and picked my comp up
from the office in the capital is when we found out where our new house
was going to be! we had the office elders drive us out here and we got
all new stuff like a fridge, stove, microwave, chairs, washer! our new
house is really really cool and it has a spiral staircase to get up to
it that is inside of the house! ill have to take pictures and send them
next week so you guys can see! the first 4 days we didnt have water or
light so we had to borrow the hose from our neighbors and lift it up to
the second story window and fill our washer full of water so that we
could take bucket showers and cook!! we finally got light yesterday so
now we have running water and power! yay! things here are going really
well and there is a lot of potential in this area!! we are going to get
to work and start seeing who we can find! i really hope that we are able
to find some good investigators this transfer so that my new comp will
be able to have a baptism in his first transfer in the mission! There
have been some crazy things that have already happened to us since we´ve
been here but everything is going good! love you guys and hope all is
well back home!
Love,
Elder Herring
