Another Week in DR

So this past week was pretty eventful! So to start off, our baptism Randy just blessed the sacrament yesterday at church which was so cool! we went to his house later that day and asked him how it was and he had a huge smile on his face and he told us that he knew he was doing what he should in life and that he feels really good! YYYEEESSS!!!! huge success right there! anyway so in our mission they have this thing called the numbers of excellence and its really hard to reach these numbers because only two missionaries have ever done it (which are the ones that set the bar) and they are Polynesians but these numbers are how many lessons, members present, references, contacts, and a bunch of other stuff you can get in one week and last week me and my comp almost got the numbers of excellence!! we were like 3 off from members present!! we have been working so hard in this area!! but its cool because we had no clue that we had such good numbers. its really true when the lord said those who lose themselves in the work will find themselves. There is one word to describe missionary life, Work. if you are lazy and don't know how to work then being a missionary is really tough but if you know how to work hard and get stuff done then missionary life is really rewarding!
Anyway, i don't know why i have never mentioned this earlier but the area that im in is La Romana and this area is known for their sugar plant. A huge percent of the population that live here work at the sugar cane factory. its kind of close to our house and so we constantly hear trains going in and out of the factory and at times it can be annoying cause all we hear day and night is the sound of train horns! oh and there is this thing here that the people call Kacheepa which is pretty much just ash in the sky. So this sugar cane plant puts a ton of pollution into the sky but then this ash rains down all over everything! its not too bad except that when it gets into your eyes it hurts way bad!!! on the plus side, it always smells really sugary and sweet like molasses all the time around here! I took a picture and i think it will be on my blog but you will be able to see the train behind me with all of the sugar cane packed into it. but other than that, missionary work and life is going great! Our investigators that we are trying to get married just got money from the bishop so we are going to see if we can get it done this week! anyways love and miss you guys and i hope everyone is doing great back home!
Love,
Elder Herring
