Wow this area is so much different than Boca Chica!!! its got its goods
and its things that could use improving but its a really good new
experience! The differences is that here in La Romana, they have paved
roads everywhere and its one of the cleanest places in the DR so there
arent a bunch of trash piles everywhere! Also the food here is so much
better because they have a lot bigger selection to choose from! their
store here is a lot better to buy food at and their church even has Air
Conditioning!!!! hallelujah!! But the problem with this area is that the
ward members dont understand how important references are!! Anyone
thats been a missionary knows that contacting is not the best way to
find people that are ready to hear the gospel. References are a huge
help because those people are usually already searching for a gospel and
we can come in and teach them and things work out good almost 99% of
the time. Boca Chica worked off of references and thats how their ward
just keeps growing but this one here doesnt understand the importance of
references so now me and my comp. (Elder Harris) are trying to really
get the ward to understand how important references are! i really feel
like this could be one of the best areas if we could strengthen the ward
and get everyone on one page!
So my bus ride here to La Romana was super interesting! There isnt just
one bus that can take you straight here from Boca Chica to here so i had
to keep getting off of one bus and getting onto another so i had about 3
or 4 buses that i was jumping off with all of my luggage and then
jumping back onto another one with all of my luggage!! yes that was
very interesting! My new companion is really cool and he is a really
hard worker! hes super obedient and does what he should! we get along
really well and everyday we get more and more used to each other. the
odd thing about transfers is that they stick you with someone who you
have no idea who they are and you are expected to be good friends so
that you can teach with the spirit. its a little tricky when you dont
always agree on the same things but each day things get worked out. So
far me and Elder Harris have been doing really good and we agree on a
lot of things. Im so grateful that i am able to have him as a companion!
anyways things here in the DR are going great and i learn new things
about the culture and the language everyday! I hope everyone back home
is doing great and enjoying the utah weather!!! oh man do i miss that!!
anyways love you guys!
Love,
Elder Herring
