MTC life.... yep, there is not much to update on! Everything here is really repetitive and nobody can ever remember what day it is cause they are all the same! It’s fun to be able to learn a ton about the gospel though! I love being able to focus on the Lord all day every day cause my testimony is really starting to grow!
The elders here are fun to be around and everyone has their own unique personality. Our district is by far one of the best because everyone helps each other out when they are having bad days. The trick to making it through the MTC is to not focus on how much time you have left here. The trick is to just work hard with the time you are given and then all of a sudden time just starts to fly by and before you know it, it’s 3 weeks later than when you were last complaining! Yep, it’s getting better as each day goes by!
Some things here to look forward to are the devotionals that are every Sunday and Tuesday evening and gym time!! The devotionals here are really inspirational and everyone walks out of there feeling way better about being here! The gym is really fun cause you actually get to physically exercise instead of sitting in a 10x20 plain white classroom for 3/4th's of the day!
The tuesday evening after Christmas was probably one of my biggest turning points I’ve had thus far. The speaker was Stephen Allen -- He's head of the MTC department here or something but he was a really good speaker! He asked all of the missionaries to stand up who had been homesick since they came to the MTC, and almost everyone stood up! Then he asked anyone that had thought about wanting to go home cause they missed their family and didn't want to stay here to stand up, so I stood up cause that had honestly crossed my mind and I seriously thought I would be the only one to stand up but almost half of all of the missionaries stood up! When I saw that I wasn't the only one that had thought that, I felt so much better!! Since that point I've really improved and I actually enjoy being out here and learning all of these new things! Of course, I still miss home and being around all of you but it’s a different kind of sadness. It doesn't make me sad unless I sit there and dwell on it so that’s why I say the trick is to stay busy and give it your all and plain and simply, just forget yourself and get lost in the work of the Lord! I never fully understand that comment until now.
I'm so thankful to be where I am at in this point in my life and thank you all for helping me get to this point! I'm sitting here trying to think of what more I could say but nothing is coming to mind! I'll start putting in cool scriptures that I’ve found starting next week! Hey if anyone ever wants to write me a letter or a dearelder.com thing, I would love to hear from you! Letters here are like gold cause other than letters, nothing else is really different around here. We always ask our President what’s been going on in the world and if there is any new cool news that’s going on! haha yep, I love this place.
Well. Anyway, I hope everyone is doing good and if you aren't, then I promise that if you come to the Lord and sincerely desire to learn more about him, things will start to fall into place and work out! There is happiness and spiritual strength that comes from the Gospel that I have seen and experienced in my life! Love you all and thank you all for all that you've done for me!!
Love,
Elder Herring
