Election week in the DR‏

So this week we are having our Pday on Saturday because they are having their presidential elections tomorrow (Sunday) and apparently from what we´ve been hearing, its going to be really dangerous to be out in the street no matter where you are at in the DR. So the Mission President is having us stay inside all of Sunday (except church which will be one hour) and we have to stay inside all of monday also! I am going to go crazy just sitting in our tiny apartment!!! luckily we have a bunch of games so we will see how long that will keep us entertained!
On the other side of things, we have 5 really really good progressing investigators and we have a Fecha (date for baptism) set with one of them for the 2nd of June! yay!! Things here in the DR are going really good and im learning more and more about myself, the mission, the language, people, and everything everyday!! Missions aren´t easy but a teacher in the MTC explained it this way, "there will be more hard times than good times but the good times will by far outweigh the hard times!" That statement is pretty true but you just have to keep a positive outlook on things and they go a lot better!!
So there are some funny things that I´ve noticed since being here in the DR...
1. Its normal here to see 6 people on one motorcycle with a mom holding a baby off to the side!!!
2. Girls here will hiss at you if they think you are cute and want your attention! we call them Frecas (Girls that are being fresh)
3. If you invite someone to church they will 99% of the time say "Si Dios quiere" in translation (if God wants) but in their culture that pretty much is a definite no!
4. The most overly said phrase in English here is "whats yo' name?" (I hear it everyday a million times!!)
5. The dream life here for a Dominican is playing Dominoes with really really rreeeaaalllllyyyy loud music!!!
6. The Presidential Candidate that plays the coolest and loudest music is the one that the people vote for!
Anyway, those were some funny things that i thought you guys would want to hear about!
Thank you all for being there for me and i hope everyone back home is doing well! Keep smiling and know that I miss you guys!!
Love,
Elder Herring
